Wombwell Hall Care Home is now home to a stunning piece of art created by Robert Mason who lives at the home.
Affectionately known as Bob to staff and other residents. Bob's artwork has taken pride of place in the reception area, serving as a testament to his creative spirit and remarkable talent.
When asked about the inspiration behind his creation, Bob shared a heartfelt story. "It was all in my mind," he explained. Despite never having formal art training, Bob drew inspiration from his late older brother, a talented painter. As a child, Bob would sit on his brother’s knee and watch him paint, a memory that sparked his lifelong love for creativity. "He was much better at painting than me," Bob humbly admitted.
Though modest about his abilities, Bob's artistic eye is keen. When complimented on his painting, he reflected with a smile, "I don't think it's great. I notice the cloud formation wasn’t very good." However, everyone disagreed, calling the piece a beautiful addition to the care home.
Bob's creative journey extends beyond painting. After retiring, he transformed his garage into a workshop where he spent countless hours crafting intricate models. With a photo album as proof of his craftsmanship, Bob showcased a collection that includes detailed soldiers, aircraft, and meticulously designed landscapes. "I even made telegraph poles out of toothpicks and fishing wire," he said.
The care home community is thrilled to display Bob's talent, which has brought a sense of joy and inspiration to everyone who sees it. "Bob's story reminds all of us of the incredible skills and memories those we care for and support carry with them," said Claire Skinner, Manager at Wombwell Hall Care Home
As Bob’s art continues to captivate visitors and residents alike, it’s clear that his creativity and passion leave an indelible mark on Wombwell Hall Care Home.
